Update: Boston

Jill won't be joining us on our adventure this time.

We're very sad, but hope she has a rockin' holiday weekend!

Lillian and I met tonight over Korean yogurt followed by Mexican dinner (yup-dessert first) to discuss some of the possibilities.

We're looking forward to our trip - it should be a blast.

YAY!

24 Hour Adventure #3: Boston!

Hilary here.

So, we thought it would be the summer of adventures, but then we were all busy working on plays and stuff.

But 24 Hour Adventure #3 is here! On Sunday morning, Jill, Lil, and I will drive to Boston. Road trip!!

We'll use my aunt's house as a base, but will see lots of the city! Lillian has never been to Boston, so...YAY!

This is gonna be fun.

Stay tuned...

24 Hour Adventure #2 Wrap-up

Oh, man! The slumber party was fun!

Lillian and Hilary learned, though, that after about 18 hours, we're pretty useless!

We didn't finish the flour - we ended up with only a couple cups left. Woulda used it for breakfast, but we fell asleep around 5:30am and didn't get up till, well, almost noon.

A huge amount of flour was used for the three big pizzas we made for our guests! Lillian also made a pinata. And we made cookies. And an apple pie! It was all quite fun.

We also learned that including alcohol on our adventure made us less apt to pick up the video camera as the night went on! Another reason why we need someone following us around on our adventures... ;)

Keep an eye out - we're hoping to have another adventure soon....

24 Hour Adventure #2 Has Begun!!

Today Lillian and Hilary can't leave the apartment. Which means there will be frequent updates! Keep coming back for more!!

24 Hour Adventure #2 - Home!

On Friday at noon, Lilian and Hilary will be in their apartment. And they won't be allowed to leave for 24 hours.

We know, we know...you've stayed in your house for well over 24 hours without even thinking about it, right? Well, that's the difference - we're thinking about it!

We don't wanna be lonely, so we're having people over. We're having a slumber party! There will be girls. There will be boys. There will be food and games and entertainment and cameras to capture it all!

And because it popped into our heads and we're a bit odd...we're also going to use an entire 5 lb bag of flour. That means baking, for sure, but maybe some other creative stuff too! Maybe it's easy to use that much flour? All we know is that it usually takes us months!

So watch our adventure! There will be frequent updates - no excuse not to! And the guests are gonna be so much fun!

New adventure in the works!

We are in the process of planning our next 24 hour adventure!

This one will be a bit different...and could begin as early as Friday if we can get a few things worked out before then!

Stay tuned for more info!

Adventure #1: NYC, May 29-30, 2007

Adventuring

On this adventure, we covered every borough and Hoboken, New Jersey.
We took Staten Island Ferry to meet Jill.
1:02pm

1:35pm

1:35pm

1:43pm

One of our many modes of transportation was Jill's car.
2:18pm

Our skiball tournament on Coney Island didn't go so well for Lillian.
5:31pm

Better for Hilary.

5:31pm

But Jill won.

5:31pm

We deserved everything we got at the Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden.
8:33pm

8:43pm

Lillian's dry contacts and itchy mosquito bites warranted a trip to Rite Aid.
2:44am

The Apple Store is open 24 Hours a day, and we wanted to see who was hanging out there at 4am.
3:41am

No one, apparently.

3:42am

The Hoboken Sunrise over Manhattan was worth the PATH train trip.
5:46am

Orchard Beach was not worth the long subway ride, the hour bus wait, or worth taking your shoes off.
8:29am

9:52am

10:02am

Connecting

Matt & Chris showed up their office and gave us KitKats and Diet Coke.
12:37pm

12:35pm

Jill rocks. She drove us to Coney Island from Staten Island.
6:13pm

This Coney Island Couple asked us to send them a copy of the photo we took of them!
6:30pm

Patti (my Consumer Behavior professor from Fordham) joined up with us at the beer garden and answered some very interesting questions!

We met these Subway Sweethearts on our way to Apple Store.
12:21am

Fooding & Beveraging
Lunch on Staten Island with Jill.
2:46pm

Starbucks was a neccesity for recharging batteries and our brains...with caffeine.
4:13pm

We ate too many Coney Island Sweets.

6:35pm

Lillian's first attempt at a candy apple was brutal.

6:37pm

6:42pm

Beer, Burgers, and Kielbasa from Bohemia Hall was awesome, until Lillian found out what Kielbasa is.

9:11pm

Coffee & Tea at Dawn from Hilary's favorite coffee shop. Anywhere in the world.
5:33am

5:35am

The Hoboken Breakfast from a weird little restaurant that had a weird squeaking sound.
6:26am

Retrospecting

What Lillian Learned:
There is a big difference between candy apples and caramel apples.
The lens cap must always be off.
I liked Kielbasa, but then I found out what it was. No more.
I can sleep on a subway, if I have to. BUt I don't think I will.

Lillian's Highlights:
Abandoning my Cyclone virginity.
The perfect weather at Orchard Beach, although the place itself was a let down.
Skiball.
Clear, perfect sunrises over Manhattan, despite my muddled, foggy mind.

What Hilary Learned:
The red light means the video camera is rolling.
Lillian will eat meat as long as you don't tell her it's pork.
Hil, Lil, and Jill share a love for Avenue Q and the Clash.
I could have snuck into Kevin's Hoboken apt and taken pics from the roof. D'oh!

Hilary's Highlights:
Hearing Matt say he was gonna hit refresh all day on our Mologogo map.
Discovering that Jill had never been on the Cyclone, even though she was born and raised in Brooklyn and then being there when she experienced it for the first time!
My favorite coffee from Landmark in Hoboken coupled with a fantastic sunrise - YAY!
Meeting and interacting with neato-keen strangers.

Geographing

The Mologogo phone tracked us on a map all the way through our adventure.

24 Hour Adventure: What you need to know

3:56am

Fifty bucks, 24 hours, two girls, and a million possibilities. The 24 Hour adventurists are Hilary McHone and Lillian Vince. Between the two of them they’ve covered 38 states, 27 countries, and six continents. 24 hour adventure means that Hil and Lil leave home for 24 hours see how far they can go and how much they can do in exactly one day. There are no rules and no limits, just two adventurists and their cameras.

Lillian is a 22-year-old native of Denver, Colorado, where she grew up climbing mountains, riding horses, and going to theatre camp. She got her BA in Theatre from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she was also introduced to the Iowa State Fair and its beef sundae. Lillian has toured most of the major tourists traps in Europe, and lost a lot of money at most of them. Her favorite adventures have been off the beaten path. She has hiked exactly one twentyfirst, more or less, or the Appalachian trail, flown a kite in Tiananmen Square, been frightened by a rhino in Senegal, and galloped horses on the beach in Gambia (she also got a facial there). Lillian is living in New York on kind of a fluke, and speaks fluent French. She thinks that since you’re reading this, you are super cool.

You can also visit Lillian's other blog at lillyv16.livejournal.com

Hilary is a 33-year-old Vermont native and grew up enjoying the great outdoors – hiking, canoeing, biking, and fishing were some of the usual activities. She high schooled in New Hampshire, but claims to know nothing about the place. A week after graduating from high school (gulp) 16 years ago, she packed up and moved to New York City at the age of 17. She has a BA in English Literature from NYU and an MBA in Marketing and Management from Fordham University. You don’t hafta work in corporate America to use that schooling every day! Hilary has bicycled across Europe, white water rafted in New Zealand, celebrated St.Patrick’s Day in Hong Kong, and galloped horses on the beach in Costa Rica. She follows her heart and encourages others to do the same. What are you waiting for?

3:51am

Essential 24 Hour Aventure Gear:

A bandanna: It's a chic accessory, a sweat rag, a washcloth, a napkin, and a mask for robbing banks.
Pig tails: The only acceptable adventurist hair style.
Sunblock: For protecting that porcelain skin.
Water: Dehydration shrinks your brain.
Mologogo: Where are we?
Cameras: See below.
A watch: So you know just how 4AM it really is at 4AM.
Grover: Give us one good reason why not.
